Sydney Day Surgery-Prince Alfred reopens after multi-million dollar refurbishment

A project to modernise and re-equip Sydney Day Surgery – Prince Alfred has now been completed.

The newly redeveloped facility opened in early August after a closure of 12 weeks while the builders demolished and re-built the space.

The project designed by leading Architects achieves a high standard in health services fit-outs. Careful planning was needed to address all requirements and ensure the facility conforms to all current guidelines.

Works undertaken included the expansion and updating of all areas: theatres, clinical and administrative areas. Additionally, significant capital investment has been made in new technologies supporting surgical services and administration processes.

“We are delighted with the result,” said Mr Peter Freeleagus, CEO of Cura. “This has been a major project and I acknowledge the patience of our staff and Doctors during the building works.”

Peter continued, “I would also like to recognize all parties involved in this project – the Architects, builders and contractors, equipment suppliers and I.T. engineers – who worked hard to bring this refurbishment to life in a short time. The support and guidance through this process from Ms. Robin Bastian and her staff has been invaluable.”

With this redevelopment Sydney Day Surgery-Prince Alfred offers additional theatre lists to Surgeons seeking a day surgery conveniently located near the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Specialist services primarily in the Gastroenterology, Gynaecology and Ear, Nose & Throat specialties remain available and the commissioning of a new ophthalmic theatre will take place in the near future.

Sydney Day Surgery-Prince Alfred is a fully-accredited and licensed day hospital utilised by more than 50 VMOs.

Enquiries for theatre times can be addressed to the hospital CEO/Director or Nursing, Ms. Robin Bastian on (02) 9550 5600.
