Patient information

  • Referral

We recommend that you have a letter of referral for your appointment. You are still able to see our specialists without one; however Medicare will only issue a rebate to patients with a current referral.

Please note referrals from General Practitioners and Optometrists are valid for 12 months from the day they are activated at your initial consultation.

Referrals from Specialists are valid for 3 months from your initial consultation at our rooms.

For returning patients, please ask our receptionist if your referral is still valid.

    • What to Bring
      • Referral letter
      • Medicare card
      • Private health insurance cards
      • Pension card
      • Any current prescription glasses
      • List of current medications
      • Any relevant scans (e.g. MRI, CT) or medical notes

Patients may like to bring a pair of sunglasses to the appointment, as our dilation drops may cause light sensitivity.

If you wear contact lenses, we ask that you bring your contact lenses to your appointment but please do not wear them on the day of your consultation.

      • Eye Drops

Dilating eye drops may be administered during your consultation. These drops may cause blurred vision for several hours.

As a safety precaution, we advise our patients not to drive home from their appointment. It is recommended patients arrange a family member or friend to drive them home. Alternatively, patients may opt to take public transport or have a taxi take them home.

        • What Will Happen at my Appointment?

Ophthalmology consultations often require multiple tests and eye drops. You may be seen by one of our clinical assistants prior to seeing the doctor, who will take medical history and perform any tests required.

Please allow at least 1.5 hours for your consultation.

We aim to ensure that your appointment occurs on time and regularly review appointment scheduling to minimise delays for patients. However, due to the unpredictable nature of consultations, it is difficult to anticipate waiting times. We do our best to advise patients if there is an expected delay, but we suggest calling ahead of your appointment to check how the doctor is running for time.

          • Billing Information

As we are a private specialist clinic, all consultations incur a fee.  Please be advised any diagnostic testing performed at your visit may also incur a charge. Some of these tests may be eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Accounts are payable on the day of consultation. We accept all major credit cards (excluding Amex & Diners), EFTPOS, cheque, money orders and cash.

For Consultation Fee and Medicare Rebate information please ask our friendly staff at reception.

Please note that Private Health Care does not cover any part of the consultation only hospital admissions.

Pension discounts can be given at the discretion of the doctor.
