Fluoroscopy Now Available at Adelaide Day Surgery

Patient care at Adelaide Day Surgery has now been taken to a whole new level, thanks to the addition of a fluoroscan machine.

Fluoroscopy is a type of medical imaging that shows a continuous x-ray on a monitor, so the body part being examined, and its motion can be seen in detail, in real-time.

Adelaide Day Surgery CEO/Director of Nursing Emma Lyndon said the state-of-the-art technology is a great addition to the hospital.

“We are always looking for new ways to increase our service offerings at Adelaide Day Surgery and I am confident this machine will be extremely beneficial for staff and patients alike,” she said.

“It gives surgeons the ability to perform tasks to the best of their ability when it comes to bone fractures and positioning plates, screws and pins. It really is the gold standard of treatment.”

The fluoroscan machine allows medical staff to look at many body systems and can evaluate specific areas which reduces invasiveness during surgery.

“We no longer need to do an open wound procedure to repair a fracture,”

Ms Lyndon said.

“This means because there is no wound or sutures there is a reduced risk of infection and delayed healing.”

Adelaide Day Surgery is committed to providing the best level of patient care possible, and this is just another way it is delivering on that promise.

“Licensed staff can freely admit patients. If someone comes in to see a surgeon and they require treatment that is beneficial with a fluoroscan machine they no longer need to be directed to another hospital, instead they can be placed into theatre,” Ms Lyndon said.

“Our orthopaedic and plastic and reconstructive surgeons have been using the fluoroscan machine regularly and the feedback has been really positive.”

All staff at Adelaide Day Surgery are hand-picked to ensure an exceptional level of professionalism and care is displayed across the hospital.
