Toowoomba Surgicentre, part of Cura Day Hospitals Group, is now using the latest endoscopy equipment that incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) for diagnosis in a first for the Toowoomba region.

CEO and Director of Nursing at Toowoomba Surgicentre, Dheena Naidoo explained that the new Olympus CV-1500 series processor and scopes have improved enhancements, image quality and depth of focal field that give clinicians and patients peace of mind that pathology can be discovered, analysed and diagnosed during the procedure.

“The 4K quality image endoscope works in combination with AI polyp detection which has shown improved detection of polyps and may contribute to the overall improvement of clinical outcomes,”
 shared Ms Naidoo.

Clinical studies show that this type of technology can increase detection rates by up to 10% and will allow doctors to pick up small polyps that might otherwise go undetected and therefore improve cancer survival rates.  With this impressive technology, the Toowoomba Surgicentre looks forward to being able to perform more early detections to support their patients to identify and respond to any issues as quickly as possible.

The rollout of this technology comes after an incredibly successful trial at the Chermside Day Hospital, another in the Cura Day Hospitals Group, that was the first to use this technology in the Asia-Pacific Region.
