Dr Keith Zabell, Chairman of Fresenius Medical Care Day Hospital Holdings (“FMCDHH”) (head entity of Cura Day Hospitals Group), today announced the appointment of three new Members to the Board of Directors – Associate Professor William Glasson AO, Dr Jean DeSombre and Mr Andrew Currie.
The recently appointed Members will replace Mr Peter Freeleagus and Mr Antony Rayment who resigned their positions on the Board on 16th October 2020 and 27th October 2020 respectively.
A/Professor William Glasson AO (appointed 27th October 2020)

Dr William Glasson is a practicing Ophthalmologist with a keen interest in medical representation and advocacy. Formerly the Federal President of the Australian Medical Association, Dr Glasson was awarded the Gold Medal for his services in 2017. He has been awarded an Order of Australia for his services to medicine in rural and remote Australia, to the eye health of indigenous people, and to professional medical organizations. Dr Glasson has served on a number of Boards, including the Medical and Allied Professional Superannuation Fund, Cancer Australia, Avant Mutual Group Ltd, St John Australia, Australian Medical Association, Royal Australia and NZ College of Ophthalmologists, and QLD Urban Indigenous Health.
Dr Jean DeSombre (appointed 27th October 2020)
Jean DeSombre is the North Asia Executive Vice President at Fresenius Medical Care. She is responsible for North Asia covering Japan and Korea and is also the Head of Fresenius Medical Care’s Japan Business. She joined Fresenius Medical Care Asia Pacific in 2016 as Senior Vice President and General Counsel Asia Pacific and has been involved in managing Fresenius Medical Care’s Japan business since 2017. Experienced in international business development and mergers & acquisitions, Jean had held senior leadership roles in multinational companies including AstraZeneca, Syngenta, and Agility Logistics. Jean holds a BA from Harvard College, a Doctor of Law (JD) from Harvard Law School and an MBA from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is fluent in English, Japanese and Korean.
Mr Andrew Currie (appointed 16th October 2020)
Andrew Currie is the Chief Executive Officer for Cura Day Hospitals Group. Andrew has 25 years of executive and leadership experience in the healthcare industry both in Australia and internationally. He has extensive knowledge of hospital management along with substantial experience in Mergers & Acquisitions. In his previous role as Chief Operating Officer of Evercare Group, Andrew was responsible for the operational performance and strategic positions of the Group’s Hospital and Diagnostic Divisions. Prior to joining Evercare Group, Mr Currie held the position of State Manager Hospitals – Victoria, West Australia, and Tasmania at Healthscope where he led the operations of 22 hospitals.
In welcoming the three new Members to the Board, Dr Zabell, said that each would bring a wealth of experiences and knowledge to the company that will be fundamental to the continuation of Cura’s future growth strategy.
