Riverina Day Surgery Celebrates 10 Years of Surgical Excellence

Riverina Day Surgery (RDS) is proud to celebrate a decade of surgical excellence, recently marking its 10th anniversary since opening its doors to the first patient on 4th July 2014.

The milestone was commemorated with a morning tea event, bringing together staff, patients, and Doctors to honour the hospital’s achievements and contributions over the years.

The journey of RDS began with a vision shared by local doctors, led by General Surgeon Richard Harrison, to provide high-quality, accessible day surgery services to the Riverina / Wagga Wagga community.

Reflecting on the hospital's inception, Dr. Harrison said, "Our goal was to create a day surgery that combined surgical excellence with a patient-centred approach.

“Seeing how far we’ve come in ten years has been really exciting. The dedication of our staff and the trust of our patients have been the pillars of our success.”

Since its founding, RDS has grown substantially, helping over 50,000 patients. In 2016 the hospital was acquired by Cura Day Hospitals Group, marking a new chapter of growth and development.

Further integration occurred in 2019 when Wagga Endoscopy Centre, also part of Cura Day Hospitals Group, was amalgamated into RDS, enhancing operational efficiencies and expanding service offerings.

Chief Executive Officer / Director of Nursing, Megan King, reflected, “It has been an incredible journey to see Riverina Day Surgery grow and evolve.”

“The excellent culture is a testament to the bonds we’ve formed with our Doctors and staff and is truly something special. Every day brings a new opportunity to make a positive impact, and I’m grateful to our wonderful team here.”

A significant highlight of the celebration was recognising the seven staff members who have been with RDS since its inception.

These dedicated individuals have played an integral role in the hospital’s journey and include Tiffany McCallum, Dani McIntyre, Lisa Maynard, Josie Reardon, Jan Gray, Gerard Regan, and Melissa Struthers.

Their commitment and dedication have been instrumental in achieving the high standards of care that RDS is known for today.

The morning tea celebration was filled with heartfelt moments, as staff and guests reminisced about the past and looked forward to the future.

As RDS commences its next decade, the focus remains on maintaining excellence in patient care, embracing innovation, and continuing to serve the Riverina community with the same passion and dedication that has defined its first ten years.
